01-01-09 HAPPY NEW YEAR! – Thank you to all of you who have offered support in the form of donations, time and energy to envision and build an educational facility in which our students can learn, practice and nurture their passions for the performing arts. After many years of fundraising within the community and beyond, we're excited to report that the ground has been broken on the Performing ArtsGround Breaking with tractors Educational Facility on the St. Helena High School campus. And, the Performing Arts Theatre Foundation is within $100,000 of reaching our final fundraising goal of $2,300,000. Craig Bond, who has for 34 years led the Choral program at St. Helena High and continues to conduct the celebrated St. Helena High School Jazz Choir, said of the groundbreaking, "This is a dream come true for me and all the many students that will benefit from this new educational facility". After spending 34 years in a less than adequate space we will now finally have a state of the art space for teaching choral music, drama and dance. My sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. Now on to "Stage II!"

The groundbreaking ceremony held October 29, 2008,Choral Ground Breaking Ceremony included choral teachers and students, St. Helena Performing Arts Theatre Foundation board members, representatives from the builders and the school district. Assisting in the ground breaking was special guest Susie Rudd, whose husband, Leslie Rudd, donated one million dollars towards the project. This donation, combined with a matching grant from the State of California, brought the project to within $100,000 of the $2,300,000 goal. Work began in November on laying the underground utilities and foundation in advance of the rainy season. Construction is expected to be completed in late spring 2009.

To ensure we meet our 2008 fundraising goal we're asking for your help this holiday season. Any little amount you can offer that will bring us closer to our final goal will be met with incredible gratitude. We're so close!
